1. Our approach
PetsCares sells consumer pet accessories intended for the uses described on their product pages. Pet safety depends on correct selection, condition, use and supervision. Products vary by species, breed, age, size, strength and behaviour; this guide gives general recommendations and does not replace product-specific warnings or veterinary advice.
2. Choose the correct size and intended use
Check dimensions and any applicable weight or strength rating before purchase. Measure your pet where the product page requests it, especially for collars, harnesses, clothing, carriers or protective accessories. A size label alone may not be sufficient. Do not use an accessory for a different species or activity unless it is explicitly suitable. Avoid equipment that is too tight, excessively loose or otherwise likely to catch, slip, restrict movement or impair breathing.
3. Collars, leads and harnesses
Inspect clips, buckles, stitching and attachment points before each use. Follow the product’s fitting instructions. Never tie an animal unattended to a fixed object with a product not specifically designed and rated for that use. Remove or adjust items that may catch on crates, fences or furnishings. The suitability of a breakaway mechanism, harness or restraint depends on the product and animal; consult a qualified professional where unsure.
4. Toys, chews and enrichment accessories
No toy is indestructible. Select an item suited to your pet’s mouth size, chewing habits and strength, and supervise play, particularly with small parts, strings, cords, stuffing, squeakers and detachable components. Remove broken or heavily worn items immediately. Pet toys are not automatically suitable as toys for children; keep all products and packaging away from young children unless the manufacturer expressly states otherwise.
5. Bowls, feeding accessories and storage
Wash feeding and drinking accessories according to the material-specific care instructions. Check for cracks, sharp edges or damaged coatings. Confirm whether a product is actually intended for food contact before placing food or water in it. Store pet food, treats and medicines separately and according to their manufacturers’ instructions. Do not claim an item is ‘food-safe’, ‘BPA-free’ or ‘dishwasher safe’ unless the individual product documentation supports the claim.
6. Grooming accessories
Choose grooming tools suitable for the pet’s coat and skin. Introduce unfamiliar tools gradually and avoid broken skin, eyes, ears or sensitive areas. Stop use if the pet shows distress or skin irritation. For medical skin conditions, persistent discomfort, injuries or allergic reactions, seek veterinary advice.
7. Travel and vehicle accessories
Use travel items according to their intended purpose. A product should only be described as a crash-tested restraint, approved carrier or safety device where supported by reliable product-specific evidence. Some countries or carriers impose particular pet-transport rules, which customers must verify before travel.
8. Allergies, materials and cleaning
Read the product-specific material list if your pet has known sensitivities. Do not assume any textile, silicone, plastic, metal or cleaning product is hypoallergenic. Clean and dry items using the instructions on the label. Replace damaged or heavily worn components rather than attempting repairs that compromise safety.
9. Packaging and choking hazards
Keep bags, plastic wrapping, silica gel, clips and small packaging components away from pets and children. Dispose of packaging promptly and responsibly. Items containing batteries, magnets or electronic parts need additional product-specific warnings and compliant handling; such products should only be offered after a market-specific regulatory review.
10. Product traceability for EU customers
For products subject to the EU General Product Safety Regulation and offered for sale to EU consumers, each applicable online product listing must provide information including the manufacturer name and contact addresses, the EU responsible person where required, product identification and applicable warnings in the required language. These details must appear at product level and cannot be replaced by this general safety page.
Product information fields to configure in the catalogue: manufacturer name; manufacturer postal address; manufacturer electronic address; EU responsible person name/postal/electronic contact where required; product identifier/SKU; warning and safety text by destination language.
11. Unsafe products, incidents and recalls
If an item breaks unexpectedly, causes or may cause injury, or appears to be the subject of a product safety issue, stop use immediately. Keep the product and identifying packaging, where safe. Email info@petscares.net with your order number, product identifier, photographs if available, and an explanation. We will evaluate the concern and follow applicable reporting, recall, notification and remedy requirements.
12. Products requiring extra approvals
Before expanding beyond ordinary accessories, specialist goods may require separate legal and Stripe reviews. Examples include pet foods and treats, nutritional supplements, products making medicinal or veterinary treatment claims, pesticides/flea treatments, electronically powered products, GPS trackers, batteries, animal transport restraints and regulated chemical products. Their sale may involve product-specific standards, registrations, labelling or country restrictions that this page does not satisfy.
